Deputy Mayor MacDonald called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and acknowledged that City Council meets on the traditional land of Treaty 6 territory.

Deputy Mayor MacDonald proclaimed May 15-21, 2022 as National Public Works Week in the City of Spruce Grove, to recognize the substantial contributions public work professionals make to protecting our national health, safety and quality of life.

There were no Public Hearings scheduled on the agenda.

Ms. Judy Palynchuk of Spruce Grove inquired about the homeless population in Spruce Grove and the availability of shelters for them. 

Council advised of the Late Night Cafe for homeless citizens during the winter season, as well as local nonprofits that address the needs of the homeless. Council has also been looking at root causes of homelessness, and how the immediate needs of the homeless can be better addressed in the future.  

Council thanked Ms. Palynchuk for her question.

Ms. Leah Kongsrude, Executive Director of the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance, presented to Council an orientation of the Sturgeon River Watershed Alliance. 

Council thanked Ms. Kongsrude for the presentation.

Ms. Julie Adams, resident of Spruce Grove, presented to Council an overview of proposed bylaw amendments and how the City's neighborhoods can be kept clean, safe and attractive by protecting them from unsightly premises and potential hazardous health situations that affect residents' quality of life.

Council thanked Ms. Adams for her presentation.

  • Deputy Mayor MacDonald called a recess at 7:35 pm.

Mr. Richard Boyd, Director of Research and Economics of the AllOneSky Foundation, presented on the Climate Change Action Plan. 

Council thanked Mr. Boyd for his presentation.

    • the adoption of the recommended adaptation actions as outlined in the Climate Change Action Plan; and
